What it is
Atelier Box is a music-box instrument for small, storybook scores — fantasy, RPG, pixel-art adventure, and the quiet scene between two bigger ones. Play it like any keyboard; it answers with tines.
The mechanism is left in. Gear Noise brings back the clockwork under the notes, and Drift lets the pitch wobble the way an old, hand-wound box does. Turn them both down and it's clean and in tune; turn them up and it sounds wound by hand, not printed.
AU and VST3, universal binary for Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. Loads in Logic, Ableton, Cubase, Reaper, and Studio One.
The controls
Seven knobs on the lid. Everything is on the front.

Spread
How wide the box sits across the stereo field — from a single point in the centre to the full width of the lid.

Brightness
The tone of the tines, from soft and felted to bright and metallic.

Decay
How long each note rings out after it's struck — short and plucked, or long and bell-like.

Drift
Pitch wobble of the mechanism. At zero it's dead in tune; raise it for the gentle sway of an old, wound-down box.

Gear Noise
The clockwork under the music — the comb, the cylinder, the spring. Off for a clean tone, up for the whole mechanism.

Reverb Mix
A built-in room around the box, so it can sit on a shelf or in a hall without a separate reverb.

Final output level for the instrument.

Installing it
A small independent release, so macOS needs one nudge the first time.

Move the plug-ins into your user folders —
Atelier Box.component to
~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/and Atelier Box.vst3 to~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/. - If macOS blocks it the first time, open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down, and click Open Anyway next to Atelier Box.
- Restart your DAW and let it re-scan. Find it under Lymel Audio → Atelier Box.
